Former Warrior Wins Bayshore Half-Marathon

At least six former WSU runners competed in one of the three races at Bayshore.

DETROIT -- At least six former Wayne State University cross country runners competed in one of the three Bayshore races on May 25th.

The three competitors in the full marathon were Nicholas Krol (2007-12), Charlene Yarema (2019-23) and Jillian Vera (2021-23). Krol finished 79th overall in a time of 2:57.55, while Yarema was third in her division (F 20-24) crossing the finish line in 3:16.32. Vera was 18th in her age division.

Zac Truman (2018-23) won the half marathon in a time of 1:06.23. He has secured a spot in the Elite Field for the Detroit Free Press Marathon this fall. Also running the half marathon was former Warrior Lauren (Kessler) Couls, who placed 11th in her age division (F 35-39) with a time of 1:36.05.

The lone former Warrior in the 10K race was Annie (Magin) Kerr, who finished 24th in her age bracket (F 30-34).
