Women's Track And Field Finishes Third At GLIAC Championships

The Warriors improved three spots on the second day of action in Allendale.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad placed third overall (119.5 points) out of 10 schools at the 2024 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by GVSU. The 105.5 points accumulated on day two is a school record, and even if you discount the 10 points earned in the 10K race which was postponed from Thursday, the 95.5 points is a WSU record for day two eclipsing the 94.5 points in 2022.

"We just had phenomenal performances across the board over both days of competition. There were too many great performances to list them all, but a few people who stood out most were Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich. / Salem), Hanne Bastiaansen (Tessenderlo, Belgium), Nicole Warren (Saline, Mich.), Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.), Keneisha Thomas (Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere), and Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.). More than anything, I am proud of the attitudes, toughness, and camaraderie of this team. Our coaching staff has done a tremendous job of preparing the student-athletes to compete, and they competed at an elite level," said Head Coach Grant Lofdahl on the GLIAC Championships.

WSU competitors recorded four NCAA Provisional marks, including two in the triple jump (Nicole Warren and Mikayla Williams), one in the 200m dash (Hanne Bastiaansen), and one in the 10,000m run (Reagan Justice). Williams, Bastiannsen, and Justice all won their respective events on Friday in Allendale, while Warren placed second behind her Wayne State teammate.
