Swim & Dive Set for Final Road Dual of Regular Season

Wayne State will travel to nationally ranked Grand Valley State.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University swimming & diving teams are set for their final road dual meet of the 2024-25 regular season.  The Warriors will travel to Grand Valley State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start against the Lakers' at GVSU's Fieldhouse Pool.

Coach's Corner
"The Warriors are excited to head to Allendale to swim against the Lakers, and it will be a great test for our program," said head coach Sean Peters.  "I believe both their men and women are in or around the top five in the country, and I look forward to the challenge.  We will definitely look forward to some great races!  Heading into the meet, we are still facing some key injuries and illnesses, but we will certainly do our best to compete at a very high level this week.  We also have athletes that can match up well with their athletes, so it will be an entertaining meet.  I also appreciate that both programs will not be using tech suits, which like I said last week, it is common knowledge that we don't use them for dual meets.  I appreciate coach Andy Boyce from GVSU for that gesture.  In the meantime, we are excited to go out on the road and compete against one of the best in Division II.  Always fun to race and dive, and looking forward to see if we can get some strong performances."

National Spotlight
For Wayne State, according to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) top 25, The Warrior men are slotted 21st while the women check in at No. 19.  As for Grand Valley State, the men are ranked fifth and the women are one spot lower in sixth.

Storied Success
Both of these programs have had there share of success, thanks in part to veteran head coaches.  Wayne State is led by the 28th-year head coach in Peters and Grand Valley State is helmed by the 18th-year leader Boyce.  In their history, the Warriors have captured 20 GLIAC Championships (11 women, 9 men), most recently in 2018 by the females.  The Lakers have accounted for 19 league titles (13 men, 6 women), including 10 straight by the men and two in a row from the women.

Next Up
Wayne State will host Oakalnd exactly one week later on Saturday, January 18th.  The action on that afternoon is set to begin at 1 p.m. inside the Warriors' Matthaei Natatorium.
