WSU Athletics Selects Callie Simpson As Marketing and Community Engagement Specialist

DETROIT -- Wayne State University Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Brand Strategy Zack Belsky has announced the hiring of Callie Simpson as Marketing and Community Engagement Specialist.  Simpson began her duties at WSU last week.

"We're thrilled to welcome Callie to the team," stated Belsky.  "Her background in event coordination and fan engagement, and a strong pride in the City of Detroit, will help us continue expanding and strengthening our efforts to create meaningful connections between fans, students, and Wayne State Athletics."

"Through my many experiences, I've learned what it takes to run not just a successful game day, but one that truly engages fans and keeps them coming back," remarked Simpson.  "I've been lucky enough to work game days with the Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings, where I saw firsthand how powerful a great fan experience can be.  I'm really excited to be part of a university that's deeply rooted in the city I love.  Wayne State, being in the heart of Detroit, a city that lives and breathes sports, offers the perfect opportunity for me to bring fresh ideas to help athletics connect with both our campus and the community.  Detroit is full of energy, tradition, and grit, and I'm proud to help Wayne State continue to 'Rep the 313' by creating meaningful, memorable moments for fans, students, and supporters."

Simpson comes to WSU after spending the last 12 months as an Athletics Special Event Coordinator at Oakland University.  She previously worked for The Collins Collective as Brand Manager and Venue Coordinator for three years.

The Manchester, Mich., native is a 2020 graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Sports Marketing.  Simpson received a minor in Art & Entertainment Management.

In her spare time, she is a member of the Detroit Lions Hype Squad, the Detroit Red Wings Red Patrol and serves as a member and a Lead Communicator for the Detroit Tigers Rally Cats.
