Wayne State Swimming & Diving to Visit Northern Michigan in GLIAC Showdown

The Warriors and Wildcats will square off for two days beginning on Friday, November 7.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University swimming & diving squads will be back in action this weekend against conference rival Northern Michigan.  The Warriors and Wildcats will compete in a two-day dual meet beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 7, followed by a 10 a.m. start on Saturday, November 8, at the PEIF Pool in Marquette, Mich.

The battle with NMU will be the Warriors' first dual meet of the 2025-26 regular season.  WSU previously competed in the swimming-only Davenport Invitational (October 10 and 11) as well as hosting the Detroit DIving Classic (October 18).

Coach's Corner
"Being that this weekend is our second meet, and with the location at NMU - whose programs are always ranked highly on both sides and capable of swimming fast every weekend - it will be a great challenge for our teams." said 29th-year head coach Sean Peters.  "We have a young core of women that are gaining experience, as well as our men who will have plenty of excellent races.  I am eager to see how the trip unfolds!"

National Spotlight
This weekend's action will be a nationally-ranked affair on both sides.  According to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) top 25, the Warrior men are 11th in the nation with 142 total points.  Meanwhile, the Green and Gold women check in at No. 13 with 126 points.  As for Northern Michigan, the men are slotted eighth (182 points) and the women are two positions lower in 10th (149 points).  The full rankings for Division II can be found HERE.

About Northern Michigan
The Wildcats are coached by Heidi Voigt in her 16th season at the helm of the NMU swim and dive programs.  She is a five-time combined GLIAC Coach of the Year winner, taking the men's honors in 2016 and 2018, the women's award in 2020 and 2022, and co-honors in 2021.  Voigt's teams have been busy to start the 2025-26 campaign, with meets already in the books on the road against Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State and Findlay, as well as a home event that included St. Cloud State, Davenport, and Lake Superior State.

Next Up
Wayne State will take just over three weeks off before competing in its next event.  The Green and Gold will be one of four squads at the four-day Golden Grizzly Invite hosted by Oakland University from Wednesday, December 3, through Saturday, December 6.  The participants are slated to include WSU, OU, Dartmouth, and Grand Canyon.
