DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's cross country squads will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday, November 8, in Kenosha, Wis., at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course. The women's race will begin at 11:00 AM ET, followed by the men's event at 12:15 PM ET.
LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors last saw action at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship, where both squads placed fourth. The men's team had a trio of student-athletes garner All-GLIAC honors, as
Glen Davis (Burtchville, Mich. / Port Huron Northern [SC4/Spring Arbor]),
Sean Pettis (Fremont, Mich.), and
Jared Platt (White Lake, Mich. / White Lake Lakeland) each were named to the second team. For the women's squad,
Ava Peters (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) and
Ella Showerman (South Lyon, Mich. / Brighton [Michigan State]) earned Second Team All-GLIAC distinctions as well.
RACE OUTLOOK
Member institutions from the GLIAC, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) will be in attendance. The top 25 individual finishers will be named to the All-Region team. In addition, coaches will vote on a Men's Athlete of the Year, Women's Athlete of the Year, Men's Coach of the Year, and Women's Coach of the Year.
The top three teams in each of the eight regions will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, with ten more squads receiving an at-large selection for a total of 34 teams. Twenty-four (24) more runners per gender will be selected to compete as an individual.
USTFCCCA RANKINGS UPDATE
The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its seventh installment of Regional Rankings on Tuesday, October 28, with the WSU women's squad appearing seventh and the men's team being ranked ninth.
