DETROIT -- The No. 14-ranked Wayne State University women's tennis team is set to travel to Hillsdale, Mich. to face the Hillsdale College Chargers on Friday, February 28. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.
Hillsdale enters the match with a 5-2 mark including back-to-back wins at Purdue University Northwest and the University of Illinois Springfield. HC has faced five Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foes as the team has defeated Lake Superior State University, Davenport University, and the previously mentioned PNW, while falling to both Michigan Tech University and Ferris State University.
The Chargers are led by head coach Nikki Walbright who returns to the helm for the first time in two seasons. Walbright began her time with HC in 2011 and has helped the program to three Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament Championships along with three NCAA Tournament berths (2018, 2019, 2021). In her time at the helm, Hillsdale has compiled a 103-90 overall ledger.
ITA NATIONAL RANKINGS UPDATE
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its Top-25 National Rankings on Wednesday morning with WSU appearing 14th for the second consecutive week.
The Top-10 includes Valdosta State University, West Florida University, Flagler College, Washburn University of Topeka, Barry University, Saint Leo University, Rollins College, Columbus State University, the University of Indianapolis, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

In the Green and Gold's most recent contest (February 15), the squad prevailed 4-3 over Findlay University.
In doubles play, the pairings of
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais [Keiser]) and
Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia / Tbilisi Public School N145 [Western Michigan]),
Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) and
Shanice Weekes (London, England / Fortismere S.S.), and
Shantala Uzcategui (Hoyo de La Puerta, Venezuela / Unidad Educativa Colegio Madre Matilde [Walsh]) and
Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que. / Collège de Montréal High School) all captured wins to earn the doubles point.
Ruyssen (7-5, 6-2), Arafat (4-6, 6-1, 7-6), and Gorgidze (6-0, 6-2) all triumphed in singles to propel the Warriors to a victory.
