Women's Tennis Prepared to Host Cardinals

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team is set to begin Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) action, as the Warriors welcome Saginaw Valley State University to the WSU Tennis Courts on Saturday, March 15, with the match scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.

LAST TIME OUT
The Green and Gold return home after competing in three matches over the team's trip to Florida.  WSU was downed in all three matches, as the squad fell 6-1 to Keiser University, 6-0 to Barry University, and 6-1 to Nova Southeastern University.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Ahead of its contest with Eastern Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State has a 1-6 ledger with the team's lone win coming against the University of Sioux Falls.

Wayne State has claimed the last eight matches between the programs with SVSU's most recent victory coming during the 2015-16 campaign.  Last season, the squads faced each other twice with the Green and Gold prevailing 5-2 in the first match and 4-2 in the second.

SVSU is led by Kaylee Tucker who is in her first year at the Helm for Saginaw Valley State.  Prior to being named the head coach of the Cardinals, Tucker spent five seasons at Concordia University Ann Arbor, serving in the same role.  While with CUAA, she compiled a 19-55 mark.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
In the most recent rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the Warriors appear as the No. 32-ranked team.  Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland Sopocka Akademia Tenisowa) (No. 25-ranked), Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France Enfants-Nantais [Keiser]) (No. 40-ranked), and Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) (No. 49-ranked) were all ranked in singles play.  In doubles, the pairings of Arafat and Szpakowska (No. 10-ranked), Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia / Tbilisi Public School N145 [Western Michigan]) and Ruyssen (No. 12-ranked), and Shantala Uzcategui (Hoyo de La Puerta, Venezuela Unidad Educativa Colegio Madre Matilde [Walsh]) and Ruyssen (No. 28-ranked) represented the Warriors.
