Men's Swimming/Diving Has Four Earn Academic All-District Recognition

Arnold, Ajmia, Jones and Martin honored for work in the classroom.

DETROIT -- Four members of the 2024-25 Wayne State University men's swimming and diving program garnered Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) organization as announced earlier this afternoon.

Recognized for their work both in the classroom and in the pool were graduate student Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.), along with a trio of sophomores in Harrison Arnold (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower), Khalil Ben Ajmia (Tunis, Tunisia / Lycée Pierre De Coubertin) and John Martin (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven).

Jones, who graduated from WSU in two-and-a-half years with a bachelor's degree in Finance, was a First Team Academic All-American by CSC a year ago.  This season, he was a three-time All-American earning First Team All-American accolades as a member of the seventh-place 800 free relay team (6:29.25).  Jones was a member of the 200 medley relay squad that placed 14th (1:29.55) and the 400 free relay (15th - 2:57.13).  At the GLIAC Championships in February, he finished third in both the 1650 free (15:33.48) and as a member of the 800 free relay (6:34.83).  Jones had a strong showing in three other finals, including a fourth-place effort in the 400 IM (3:54.14), fifth in the 1000 free (9:16.34) and seventh in the 200 fly (1:50.25).  A current MBA student, he was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all seven semesters, with five 4.0 terms.  He maintains a 3.945 cumulative GPA in graduate school after 27 hours.

Arnold competed in all nine of the team's swim meets this past year.  He raced in the finals of four different events at GLIACs garnering a fourth-place effort in the 500 free (4:29.34), fifth in the 1650 free (15:45.98), seventh in the 1000 free (9:23.52), and 18th in the 200 free (1:40.65).  An Engineering major, he has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all semesters at WSU, with two 4.0 terms.  As a freshman in 2023-24, Arnold received CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American Second Team honors.  At the league meet that year, he swam in the finals for a pair of events including eighth in the 500 free (4:32.60) and eighth in the 1650 free (15:51.89).

Ben Ajmia battled through injuries during his sophomore season to participate in seven of the team's nine meets.  As a freshman in 2023-24, Khalil was a four-time All-American, including becoming the first WSU men's swimmer to ever place first overall in the 1650 free.  He added First Team All-American recognition in the 1000 free (second - 8:54.58) and 500 free (third - 4:17.75).  Ben Ajmia garnered Second Team All-American honors as a member of the 800 free relay squad (ninth - 6:31.21).  The Marketing major has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all three semesters, including one 4.0 term.  Last month, he was a member of the 800 free relay which placed seventh to earn First Team All-America recognition.

Martin placed 14th on the one-meter board (432.00) and 15th in the three-meter dive competition (461.05) last month at the NCAA Championships to nab two Second Team All-American awards for a second straight campaign.  At the GLIAC Championships in February, he finished sixth on the three-meter board (433.20) and seventh in the one-meter dive (393.30).  As a freshman in 2023-24, Martin received CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American First Team honors.  At NCAAs, he placed 12th on both the one-meter (424.15) and three-meter (463.20) boards.  The Mechanical Engineering major, he has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) twice and the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) once.
