Jones Becomes A Three-Time CSC Academic All-American

DETROIT -- Graduate student Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) of the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team was named First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) on Wednesday afternoon.  Jones becomes the third three-time recipient in school history after a Second Team distinction in 2022-23 and First Team honors a year ago.

Jones, who graduated from WSU in two-and-a-half years with a bachelor's degree in Finance, started the MBA program in January of 2024.  He earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) all seven semesters, including five perfect 4.0 terms.  A two-time GLIAC Commissioner's Award recipient (2023-24 and 2024-25), Jones is a three-time CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American (2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24; 2024-25 is still to be announced) and will earn his third GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection this summer.  In addition, he will also be a three-time D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award honoree (2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25).

In the pool, Jones was an 11-time All-American including three First Team Relays (200 Free Relay - sixth in 2002 and eighth in 2023; and 800 Free Relay - seventh in 2025).  He garnered two Second Team/Honorable Mention certificates in individual events (400 IM - 14th in 2024; and 1650 Free - 14th in 2024) as well as six relays (400 Free Relay - 11th in 2022 and 2023, and 15th in 2025; 800 Free Relay - 16th in 2023 and ninth in 2024; and 200 Medley Relay - 14th in 2025).

Jones received seven All-GLIAC certificates (top three in an event) in his collegiate career, including three times as a member of the 800 Free Relay (second in 2022 and 2024; and third in 2025); twice with the 400 Free Relay (second in 2022 and third in 2023); and once each in the 200 Fly (third in 2022) and 1650 Free (third in 2025).  He finished in the top seven in an event at the GLIAC Championships 24 times in his four seasons, including all four years in the 200 Fly, 400 IM, and 1650 Free.  The other top seven performances came in the 1000 Free (three times), 200 IM (once); 800 Free Relay (three times), 400 Free Relay (three times), 200 Free Relay (once) and 400 Medley Relay (once).

About the CSC Academic All-America Program
The College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America program has been honoring outstanding academic and athletic achievement by student-athletes throughout the landscape of college sports since 1952.  The first Academic All-American team (football) was released on December 6, 1952, and was organized by then SMU SID Lester Jordan.

Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom.  The all-time list of 40,000+ Academic All-Americans includes major sports stars and some of the world's most accomplished individuals in medicine, business, science and the arts.  Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions.

Teams are announced year round and amplified by CSC member colleges, universities, and conferences on a wide local, regional, national, and even international scope.  Nominating and voting for Academic All-America® is an exclusive right of College Sports Communicators members.

CSC began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 40,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors.

Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country.  All other championship sports are eligible through the At-Large program.

Stand alone contests for each sport are conducted in all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA.  A single At-Large program is available for the College Division.
