Men's Tennis Ready for Upper Peninsula Trip

DETROIT -- The No. 20-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team is prepared to play a pair of road matches this weekend.  The first contest will be at Lake Superior State University, with the second at Michigan Tech University.  WSU will face the Lakers on Friday, April 4 and the Huskies on Saturday, April 5.

LAST TIME OUT
The Green and Gold split its two most recent contests, topping Davenport 6-1, before falling 3-4 to Grand Valley State.

The Warriors took control early against the Panthers, winning all three doubles matches to take the 1-0 advantage.  Wayne State won all but one match in singles to earn the 6-1 victory.

After splitting the first two doubles matches, the Warriors were bested in the No. 1 position as GVSU gained control of the match.

The Warriors were unable to mount a comeback as they won three-of-six singles matches, and were defeated 4-3.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
LSSU has a 7-3 overall ledger and a 2-1 mark in GLIAC play.  Lake Superior State has won its last two contests, defeating both Purdue Northwest (5-2), and Roosevelt (6-1).  Wayne State has won the last 18 meetings between the squads, including last year's 6-1 triumph.  The Lakers are led by first-year head coach Mike Andrews.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Michigan Tech is led by interim head coach Riley Schreck.  Schreck has helped the team to a 3-5 mark that includes a 1-1 ledger in conference matches.  The Huskies split their last two matches, topping Roosevelt 4-3 before falling 2-5 to Purdue Northwest.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
In the most recent poll from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), WSU appears as the No. 20-ranked team.  Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) is the sole member of the squad that is ranked in singles (29th), while the duo of Drenth and George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) are the No. 30-ranked doubles pairing.
