DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad will compete at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament this weekend (4/25-27) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. The Green and Gold enter the tournament as the No. 2-seed and have received a bye in the first round.
The Warriors will face the winner of a match between Ferris State University and Lake Superior State University. If WSU prevails in its semifinal match, it will compete against either Grand Valley State University, Purdue University Northwest, or Davenport University in the tournament championship.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Wayne State downed both Ferris State (5-2) and Lake Superior State (5-2) earlier this season. The Bulldogs finished the season with an 11-7 overall ledger which included a 5-2 mark in conference play and are the No. 3-seed in the tournament. LSSU compiled an 8-6 mark including a 3-4 record against GLIAC opponents, and enters the tournament as the No. 6-seed.
Both GLIAC squads that triumphed over WSU reside on the opposite side of the bracket, as Wayne State was topped by both GVSU (3-4) and PNW (3-4). The Green and Gold bested DU 6-1 when the squads faced each other during the regular season. The Lakers are the No. 1-seed in this year's tournament, finishing with a 7-0 mark in the GLIAC and a 14-2 overall record. The Pride compiled a 4-3 record in GLIAC play with wins over Davenport, Michigan Tech University, Roosevelt University, and Wayne State.
REGIONAL RANKINGS UPDATE
The NCAA released its newest iteration of the regional rankings, with WSU appearing as the No. 3-ranked squad in the Midwest. The Warriors are joined by GLIAC rivals GVSU, FSU, PNW, and DU. Along with the GLIAC, the Midwest Region consists of squads from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Each conference's tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Widwest Regional Tournament with five more teams garnering at-large bids.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released it weekly poll on Wednesday, April 24, with WSU appearing as the No. 20-ranked team in the nation. In singles play,
Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) was the lone member of the Green and Gold to receive a ranking, coming in as the No. 38-ranked singles player in the country. The duo of Drenth and
George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) are the No. 26-ranked pairing in doubles competition.
