Women's Golf In Third Through Opening Round of GLIAC Championships

The Warriors' effort on Friday placed them behind only #10-Grand Valley State and #37-Ferris State.

AUGUSTA, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's golf team began postseason action on Friday at the 2025 GLIAC Championships, which are once again being held at Stonehedge GC in Augusta.  The Warriors finished the day with a team score of 299 (+11) to place third out of nine programs at the event following the first round (18 holes).

Grand Valley State, ranked 10th in the nation for Division II, was the only squad to shoot par or better at an even 288.

WSU's Sophia Wygonik (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Franklin [Eastern Michigan]) was not only the best of the Green and Gold's five participants at even par (72), but also broke up the GVSU party at the top of the individual standings.  The Lakers claimed the other three places in the top four, led by Olivia Stoll with a three-under round of 68.

Wayne State will wrap up stroke play with the second and final round (18 holes) on Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. from Stonehedge GC.  If the Green and Gold maintain a top-four ranking, the team will then advance to the match play portion of the GLIAC Championships.  The medal semifinals are slated to start at 3 p.m. the same day.
