Women's Golf Eliminated by Ferris State in Medal Match Play Championship Semifinals

WSU and FSU tied 2.5-2.5, but the Bulldogs' team score was seven strokes lower.

AUGUSTA, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's golf team used a third-place finish in stroke play on Saturday to advance to medal match play against Ferris State in the 2025 GLIAC Championships.  The Warriors and Bulldogs tied 2.5-2.5, but FSU's team score was seven strokes lower, 299-306.

Next up for Wayne State is the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, April 28.  In the most-recent rankings released on Friday, April 11, the Green and Gold were slotted 10th in the East Region.  Also showing up for the GLIAC were Grand Valley State in second, Ferris State in sixth, Davenport in eighth, and Saginaw Valley State in 13th.  Eighteen (18) teams in the east, central, south and west regions; along with six individuals, not on those teams, will compete at regionals.  Four, 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the participants in the championships finals.

The low five (5) teams in the east and west regionals and the low four (4) teams in the central and south regional; along with the low two (2) individuals, not on those teams, will advance to the finals. Tiebreakers and playoffs will be used to determine team and individual champions and advancement to the finals. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championships competition and all national championships policies will apply.

At the finals, all 18 teams and 8 individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of stroke play, an individual champion will be declared along with finishers 2-10 based on cumulative total score and any applicable tiebreakers. The top eight teams after 54 holes of play will be placed into a bracket and seeded based on 54-hole scores. The pairings for the quarterfinals will be Seed No. 1 versus Seed No. 8, Seed No. 2 versus Seed No. 7, Seed No. 3 versus Seed No. 6 and Seed No. 4 versus Seed No. 5, competing in medal play aka medal match play (stroke play over 18 holes and low score wins).
