Women's Tennis to Play Final Two Road Matches at Roosevelt and Purdue Northwest

DETROIT -- The No. 23-ranked Wayne State University women's tennis team will travel to Roosevelt University and Purdue University Northwest for its final two road matches of the regular season.  WSU will face the Lakers on Friday, April 11, before competing at PNW on Saturday, April 12.

LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors continue to roll in conference action, nabbing two more wins over Lake Superior State University and Michigan Tech University to improve their GLIAC record to 5-0.

While competing at LSSU, WSU was able to collect the doubles point, putting the squad ahead entering singles action.  In singles, the Green and Gold prevailed in 4-of-6 matches, defeating the Lakers 5-2.

Wayne State captured its second win of the weekend at Michigan Tech, topping the Huskies 6-1.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Roosevelt holds a 6-11 record this season that includes a 0-5 mark against GLIAC opponents.  The Lakers are led by second-year head coach Dominic DeNardo.  DeNardo helped the RU women's tennis squad to an appearance in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) last season, and has aided the team to a 16-22 mark.  The contest will serve as the first meeting between the programs, as Roosevelt was previously a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Prior to its match with Ferris State University, PNW owns a 5-13 overall ledger and is 2-3 in conference matches.  Wayne State has prevailed in the last eight meetings between the squads, including last year's 7-0 triumph.  Selenay Heper is in her second season as the head coach of the PNW women's tennis team and has guided the Pride to a 12-29 overall mark in her career.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its most recent poll on Wednesday, April 9, with WSU appearing as the No. 23-ranked team in the country.  Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland / Sopocka Akademia Tenisowa) was the sole member of the squad to receive a ranking in singles, being ranked 58th.

In doubles, the parings of Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) and Szpakowska, and Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia / Tbilisi Public School N145 [Western Michigan]) and Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais [Keiser]) represented the Green and Gold.  Arafat and Szpakowska come in as the No. 15-ranked duo, while Gorgidze and Ruyssen are ranked 26th.
