Women's Tennis Prepared to Host NCAA Midwest Regional

DETROIT -- The No. 1-seeded Wayne State University women's tennis team will host a section of the NCAA Midwest Regional at the WSU Tennis Courts.  The Green and Gold welcomes No. 4-seeded Tiffin University and No. 5-seeded Ferris State University.  The Dragons and the Bulldogs will compete against each other on Monday, May 12, with the winner of that match set to face the Warriors on Tuesday, May 13.

Due to the Midwest Regional having seven teams selected, WSU will have a first-round bye and face the winner of the match between TU and FSU.

The Warriors aim to make it three consecutive years advancing past the regional round as the squad has moved on to the NCAA Quarterfinals in each of the last two campaigns.

SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
Tiffin enters the NCAA Tournament with a 19-6 ledger on the season.  Along with the impressive record, the Dragons are riding an eight-match win streak ahead of their contest with Ferris State.  TU claimed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament title on Saturday, April 26, by defeating the conference's regular season champion Findlay University 4-2.  Sophomore Jemimah Choi earned G-MAC Player of the Year honors while both Emily Barrett and Anaelle Lepinay garnered all-conference nods.

Head coach Phil Conley is in his 16th season with the squad.  In his tenure with the Dragons, Conley has been named G-MAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year seven times and has led the team to its fourth consecutive NCAA Tounament appearance.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The teams faced each other once before during the regular season, with WSU securing a 7-0 triumph on its senior day.  The Bulldogs have a 12-8 record prior to their contest with Tiffin that includes a 5-2 win over the Dragons.  Six FSU student-athletes garnered All-GLIAC honors, as Ana Sofia Hernandez, Yara Madi, Kennedy Dumas, Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer, Aimee Reynoso, and Katherine Earnest were named to the all-conference team.

Mark Doren leads the way for FSU and is in his seventh season with FSU.  While at the helm, Doren has helped the Bulldogs to a 79-58 overall mark and has lead FSU to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance
