Ruyssen Recognized as ITA Midwest Senior Player of the Year

DETROIT -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its Annual Division II Women's Regional Awards on Monday, with Wayne State University student-athlete Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais [Keiser]) being tabbed as the Midwest Senior Player of the Year.  The honor is awarded to the top senior or graduate student in each of the eight regions.

The ITA will announce its National Awards on Tuesday, May 20.

Ruyssen earns the honor after a successful campaign in which she compiled a 17-7 overall ledger in singles while totaling a 12-4 mark in the No. 1 position.  In doubles, the Warrior tallied 24 wins to just nine losses and notched a 12-5 record in the No. 1 spot, primarily competing with Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia Tbilisi Public School N145 [Western Michigan]).  The graduate student finished with a 7-1 mark in both singles and doubles against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foes and was named the GLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Year.

In addition to her individual honors, Ruyssen led the Green and Gold to a flawless 8-0 ledger within the GLIAC, helping the Warriors claim the regular-season title and a second-place finish in the conference tournament.  The WSU student-athlete aided the squad to a 12-1 record within the Midwest Region and the No. 11 seed in the NCAA Championships after WSU won its section of the NCAA Midwest Regional.

UP NEXT
Ruyssen, along with the entire Wayne State women's tennis team, will next compete in the NCAA Round of 16 as the Warriors will face No. 6-seeded Dallas Baptist University on Wednesday, May 21, at 12:00 PM in Altamonte Springs Fla. at Sanlando Park.
