Wayne State was selected for the regional per a release from the NCAA on Monday, April 28. Tournament Format
The NCAA East Regional is one of four, 54-hole regional tournaments that will be conducted to determine participants in the championship finals. A total of 18 teams in the East, Central, South, and West regions, along with six individuals not on those teams, will compete in the regional round.
The low five squads in the East and West regionals and the low four teams in the Central and South regionals, along with the low two individuals not on those teams, will advance to the national finals. Tiebreakers and playoffs will be used to determine team and individual champions, plus advancements to the finals. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of NCAA championship competition and all national championship policies will apply.
At the finals, all 18 teams and 8 individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following those 54 holes, an individual champion will be declared along with finishers 2 through 10 based on cumulative total score and any applicable tiebreakers. The top eight teams after 54 holes of play will be placed into a bracket and seeded based on those scores. The pairings for the quarterfinals will be Seed No. 1 versus Seed No. 8, Seed No. 2 versus Seed No. 7, Seed No. 3 versus Seed No. 6 and Seed No. 4 versus Seed No. 5, competing in medal match play (stroke play over 18 holes and low score wins).
