WSU Athletics Ranks 11th Nationally In Community Service Hours

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Department of Athletics ranked 11th nationally among all NCAA Division II institutions in terms of community service hours for the 2024-25 academic year according to Helper Helper.

"Our student-athletes understand that leadership is about impact," said WSU Director of Athletics Erika Wallace.  "Being ranked 11th nationally is a reflection of their deep commitment to service, and to the broader mission of Wayne State University.  Through their work in the community, they are contributing to the Prosperity Agenda.  I'm proud of how they continue to show up with purpose and lead with heart."

WSU was the top-ranked school in the Midwest Region among the listing of the top 25 institutions nationally.

Four WSU teams finished in the top-10 nationally in their respective sports.

The men's swimming and diving program was sixth nationally marking the fifth consecutive year in the top seven.

Women's swimming and diving ranked seventh marking the fifth straight year the programs was in the top-seven nationally.

The men's cross country program placed eighth nationally among schools, including those that sponsor track and field, and thus would have more team members.

WSU's women's cross country and track & field team ranked seventh nationally in terms of hours giving back to the community.

WSU student-athletes have spent over 144,000 hours in the Metro Detroit community making a difference and improving lives since 2007.
