COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's golf team kicked off the 2025-26 season on Saturday with round one of Ohio Dominican's Champions of Women's Golf Classic. Halfway through the tournament, the Warriors are tied-for-sxith among the 15-team field with an 18-hole score of 317 (+37).
Individually,
Claudia Portillo (Madrid, Spain / IES Ortega y Gassett) spearheaded the Warriors as one of five players tied-for-fifth with a 75 (+5). Portillo carded a bogey on six holes, but converted a birdie on the par four eighth hole.
"It was great to get the season started today, embrace the first tee nerves and get back into the flow of competition," said head coach
Larry Hamilton. "There were some highs and lows today, but also a lot of really steady play. I'm very proud of how everyone kept focused throughout their round and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
