Men's and Women's Tennis Squads Nationally Ranked in First ITA Poll

DETROIT -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its first Division II National Poll of 2026, with the Wayne State University men's and women's tennis teams both appearing in the top 25.

The men's squad, after appearing in its fourth-consecutive NCAA Tournament a year ago, comes in as the No. 23-ranked squad nationally.  Joining the Green and Gold from the Midwest Region are Grand Valley State (13) and UIndy (17).

The WSU men's tennis team will face eight programs that are ranked in the poll.  Those eight are #3-Flagler, #12-Saint Leo, #13-GVSU, #14-Florida Southern, #15-Embry-Riddle, #17-UIndy, #20-Charleston, and #25 Rollins.

On the women's side, Wayne State is the No. 22-ranked team ahead of the season following its third-straight NCAA Quarterfinal appearance.  Findlay (16) and Grand Valley State (19) join the Warriors from the Midwest.

Similar to the men's squad, the women's team will play a number of ranked foes this season, including three of the top-four teams in the nation.  Wayne State will compete against defending National Champion #1-Barry, last year's National Runner-Up #2-Nova Southeastern, #4-Flagler, #16-Findlay, and #19-GVSU.

The men's tennis team will begin the 2026 portion of the season with an exhibition match at Western Michigan University on Saturday, January 17, while the women's squad will open at home against Huntington on Friday, January 23.
