DETROIT -- The Wayne State University swimming & diving squads will continue their busy schedule with a trip to the University of Findlay on Saturday, January 17. Action from inside Sink Natatorium for WSU's fourth overall dual meet of the 2025-26 season will begin at 1 p.m.
The Warriors will face nationally ranked competition in both genders once again this weekend. The Oilers are ranked eighth (men) and 13th (women) in the country for Division II according to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) top 25.
The Green and Gold are in the middle of a five-meet stretch of contests between January 9 and January 24. The two teams squared off with Calvin and Grand Valley State last weekend to begin the 2026 portion of the schedule.
Coach's Corner
"Going to Findlay is always a good challenge, said head coach
Sean Peters. Their program is a perennial top 10 program on the men's side, and their women have incredible talent. They are, no doubt, one of the fastest programs in Division II, and, at their facility, they are even more formidable. I love it! Can't wait to get there, see our Warriors race with them, and try to continue to build to our ultimate goal of being the best we can be at both GLIAC's and Nationals."
National Spotlight
The most recent edition of the CSCAA top 25 was released in December, with both Warrior squads receiving votes. The WSU men are 14th in the nation with 100 total points, while the Green and Gold women collected eight total votes to appear just outside of the top 25 in 27th position. The full rankings for Division II can be found HERE.
Wasiniak Collects Weekly Honor
Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) was named GLIAC Diver of the Week by the conference on Wednesday for his performances last weekend at Calvin and vs. Grand Valley State. On the road at CU, Wasiniak tied-for first in one-meter diving (313.58) and won on the three-meter board (298.50). He continued his run the following day with victories on both boards (314.33 on the one meter and 325.05 on the three meter) against GLIAC powerhouse GVSU.
It was the sixth time in his career and third instance already this season that Wasiniak earned the weekly honor.
About Findlay
Findlay is led by Diego Santos in his third season as head coach of the Oilers' swimming & diving programs. He previously spent four years as the assistant coach of both teams prior to his promotion to the lead role. Santos has guided UF to four dual-meet victories on both the men's and women's sides, including victories for both over Ashland, Lewis, Hillsdale, and John Carroll University. However, the Oilers lost in both genders last weekend at Indianapolis in their first action of 2026.
