Women's Indoor Track & Field Has Strong Performances At Bill Clinger Classic

Wilson breaks school record; Overgaard wins 200m dash.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Members of the Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad participated in the 2026 GVSU Bill Clinger Classic on Friday at the Kelly Family Sports Center. The Warriors had one event winner in junior Rachel Overgaard in the 200m dash, while senior Avery Wilson placed second in the 400m dash eclipsing her own school record by nearly 0.5 seconds in an NCAA Provisional time of 56.25.

"We saw a lot of nice performances on Friday at GVSU. There are some things the we need to do better, but overall it was a pretty good meet for the team.

"Avery's 400 was certainly the biggest highlight of the day. She ran a smart, veteran race and crushed her own school record. Rachel Overgaard had a really impressive run in the 200 as well, and no one else in 18 heats ran faster than she did.

"It was a really strong meet for the Warrior hurdlers, with Megan Zahnow and Keneisha Thomas both making the 60-meter hurdle finals, setting new PRs in the prelims that put them high on our all-time list.

"Our freshmen continue to impress, and Ava Peters' mile, Audrey Huizinga's 400, Kendall Sears' 3K, and especially Sohanny Gonzalez' triple jump PR were great efforts.

"We had solid performances from some upperclassmen as well, including Nicole Warren, Rachel Felstow, Ania Toboy, and Lauren Wooten. We will recover hard and get ready for another big week of training, and split the squad next weekend between two highly competitive meets."
