Women's Track and Field Wraps-Up Participation At SVSU Jet's Pizza Invite

4x400m relay takes first place.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad concluded the two-day SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational on Saturday.

The Saturday highlight for the Warriors took place in the final women's event of the competition as the 4x400m relay took first place in a time of 3:49.17. This quartet featured Keneisha Thomas (R-Jr., Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere), Hanne Bastiaansen (Sr., Tessenderlo, Belgium), Avery Wilson (Sr., Davison, Mich.), Audrey Huizinga (Fr., Manistee, Mich.).

Wilson placed second in the 60m dash finals and fourth in the 200m dash finals. Emily Gordon finished third in the 800m run, while freshman Sophie Pell tied-for-sixth in the high jump.

QUOTING COACH LOFDAHL
"We did some very good things in the relays at the Jet's invite, especially in the 4x400. We have a lot illness going through the team right now, but that's part of every indoor track season. We had out share of struggles, especially on Saturday.

"Avery Wilson continues to crush almost every race she's in, and she had five good ones this weekend. Her 56-flat leg of the 4x400 was our fastest split, following a 200 dash PR. Freshman Audrey Huizinga had a very good meet as well, with two strong relay legs. Keneisha Thomas and Hanne Bastiaansen crushed their legs of the 4x400 as well, and sub-3:50 in January is excellent for that group.

"It was great to get Emily Gordon and Sasha-Gay Thompson back on the track after time missed due to injuries, and they will be key pieces to the puzzle for us in the homestretch of the season.

"Our freshman class has been extremely impressive so far this season, and the coaching staff has been impressed continually by their poise and maturity. They've already added a lot to the team in a short time.

"We will take the positives from this weekend, regroup and reset some folks, and hopefully be ready to roll in one of our favorite meets, the W-C-W, next Saturday. We want nothing more than to take the championship belt home to Detroit!"
