Men's Tennis Heads to Toledo Before Hosting Findlay

DETROIT -- The No. 23-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team will travel to the University of Toledo on Friday, February 13, before welcoming the University of Findlay on Saturday, February 13.

LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors opened their regular season last week with a 6-1 win over Walsh.  WSU went 3-0 in double to nab the first point of the match, before winning 5-of-6 in singles to post the victory.

Sophomore George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) earned wins in doubles and singles, and was named GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
Toledo is 3-5 overall with wins over Tiffin (6-1), Findlay (7-0), and IU Indy (7-0) after collecting a 9-11 ledger last season.

Poonthong Komolpisut returns for his junior campaign after earning Second Team All-Mac honors a year ago.  This year, Komolpisut has garnered a 3-1 mark in the No. 1 singles position.

Al Wermer is in his 30th season at the helm for the Rockets, compiling a 343-368 record.  Wermer has helped the team to two MAC Regular Season Championships, a pair of MAC Tournament Championships, and two NCAA Tournament berths.

SCOUTING THE OILERS
Findlay owns a 1-2 record this season, with its only win coming against Illinois Springfield.  UF faced a pair of GLIAC member institutions in Grand Valley State and Ferris State, falling in both matches.  Its 7-0 loss at Toledo was an exhibition for Findlay, but a countable contest for the Rockets.

A pair of All-G-MAC honorees return for the 2025-26 season, as Clément Andrieu was named to the Second Team, while Soh Kuyama garnered a First-Team distinction.

Jeff Westmeyer has taken the reins of the men's tennis team this season, while serving at the head coach of the women's squad since the 2020-21 season.  With the women's tennis team, Westmeyer has collected a 78-34 record and has guided the Oilers to the NCAA Midwest Regional in each of the last four seasons.
