UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad too first place in the annual W-C-W (Warriors-Cardinals-Wildcats) meet hosted by Saginaw Valley State this year.  The Warriors totaled 118 points to edge Northern Michigan (112.5) and SVSU (104.5).  No team scores were kept in 2021, with SVSU winning in 2022, WSU in 2023 and Northern Michigan in both 2024 and 2025.

"Today was a lot of fun.  The ladies did exactly what we asked them to, which was to compete as hard as they could, bring great energy, and support each other all day long.  The camaraderie between the three teams was good, as usual.

"Emily Gordon is one of a kind -- she was injured in December and wasn't able to jog for more than a few minutes a month ago.  To win an ultra competitive mile and smash her own school record today was just crazy.

"Rachel Overgaard had a tremendous 400 and ran a nice relay leg, and Avery Wilson just did what she's been doing all season. M egan Zahnow's 60 hurdle race was excellent, and Audrey Huizinga had two impressive runs in the 300 and 200.

"On the field side, Sophie Pell got a nice win in high jump to start the scoring for us.  Makayla Stewart had really good day in shot and weight, as did Mariska Laurila. Nicole Warren and Annabelle Smith were solid for us in the jumps and in their sprint races.

"Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley are very good teams, and we knew it would be close, because the W-C-W is always close!  It hasn't been easy so far this season, so it feels good to bring home the championship belt. I'm proud of all of our athletes and coaches."
