Women's Basketball has Four Student-Athletes Receive Academic All-District Honors

DETROIT -- Four members of the 2025-26 Wayne State University women's basketball team earned Academic All-District accolades from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), as announced by the organization earlier this afternoon.

Senior Jaci Tubergen (Hudsonville, Mich. [Bowling Green State]) and juniors Annabel Ayrault (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North). McKenna Ferguson (Grandville, Mich. / Byron Center), and Emily Homan (Haslett, Mich.) were recognized for their efforts in the classroom.

Tubergen, an Applied Health Sciences (pre-Occupational Therapy) major, has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) three times, including one semester with a 4.00 GPA.  She will be named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team, was a 2024-25 recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award and was the 2024-25 Deans' Award recipient from the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for having the highest cumulative grade-point average of any student-athlete in that college.  The senior started all-but-one game this past season for the green and gold, setting personal bests in points (223), rebounds (108), assists (87), field goals made (77), three pointers made (33), steals (24), and blocks (11).  She notched the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds at Michigan Tech, and surpassed double-digit scoring eight times.

Majoring in Psychology, Ayrault has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times, including four semesters with a 4.00 GPA, and serves as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  The junior will be a two-time member of the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team and was a 2024-25 recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.  On the court, Ayrault appeared in all 32 contests this year, making a pair of starts.  She set career-highs in minutes played (399) and rebounds (44) this season.  She ranks 12th in program history in three-point percentage (.345 / 51-of-148 / min. 40 made).

Ferguson, an Exercise & Sport Science major, earns her second Academic All-District nod after being honored a year ago.  The junior has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll three times, and to the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) twice.  Ferguson will be named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for the second time and was a 2024-25 recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.  This season, she was voted First Team All-GLIAC and to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team.  She became the 21st player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points after contributing 528 points this season.  The Grandville, Mich., native ranked second in the GLIAC in points per game (16.5), second in three-point percentage (.403), third in steals (91), and sixth in field goal percentage (.455).

Homan, studying Marketing, has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times, with one semester with a 4.00 GPA, and to the Coach's Honor Roll once.  She serves as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was a 2024-25 recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award and will be named to her second GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team.  This year, she set career-highs in games played (32), minutes played (489), points (94). field goals made (36), three pointers made (13), rebounds (74), assists (43), steals (22), and blocks (seven).

CSC RELEASE:

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 14 (men) and April 15 (women).

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
