Cross Country and Track and Field Teams Announce 2025 Calendar Year Award Winners

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's cross country teams along with the women's track and field program announced the winners of the 2025 calendar year awards.

BELOW ARE THE TRACK AND FIELD AWARDS:
Track Athlete of the Year – Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich. / Salem)
Field Athlete of the Year – Nicole Warren (Saline, Mich.)
Track Rookie of the Year – Track – Megan Zahnow (Vicksburg, Mich.)
Field Rookie of the Year – Field – Olivia Findlay (Marlette, Mich.)
Warrior Award – Natalie Davies (Chelsea, Mich.)

Justice won the 5,000m race at the 2025 GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships and placed sixth in the 3,000m.  During the outdoor season, she garnered USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 10,000m run for having one of the top five times in the region.  At the NCAA Championships, the Warrior placed 19th in the 10,000m race.  At the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Justice captured her third-consecutive win in the 10,000m race with a time of 35:32.55, while placing fourth in the 5,000m run.

Warren earns the Field Athlete of the Year honor after impressive indoor and outdoor seasons.  At the GLIAC Indoor Meet, she placed fourth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 10.76m, while placing eighth in the long jump (5.14m).  Her top mark in long jump during the indoor season was 5.29m.  During the outdoor campaign, she finished fifth at the league meet in the triple jump (10.83m), while earning a 10th-place finish in the long jump (5.38m).

During the indoor season, Zahnow competed in six regular-season meets, plus the GLIAC Championships, finishing seventh at GLIACs in the 60m hurdles (9.05)  She ran a season-best time of 8.92 for 60m hurdles at the SVSU Tune-Up, while posting a season-best time of 45.43 for 300m at the Findlay Alumni Classic, and recording a 200m dash season-best time of 27.87 at the SVSU Holiday Open.  In outdoor, she once more saw action in six meets, along with the GLIAC Championships.  She finished eighth at GLIACs in the 100m hurdles (14.66), after posting a season-best time of 14.51 in the prelims.  Zahnow ran a season-best time of 1:07.35 for 400m hurdles at the Central Michigan Chippewa Challenge.

Findlay was tabbed as the Field Rookie of the Year following a freshman campaign that entailed a fourth-place finish at the GLIAC Indoor Championships in the high jump (1.65m) and ninth in the triple jump (10.15m).  During the outdoor season, she competed in three events at GLIACs with a best finish of third in the high jump (1.63m), while posting a season-best mark of 5.29m in the long jump to place 12th.  She finished 11th in the triple jump at GLIACs with a season-best mark of 10.09m.

The Warrior Award goes to the student-athlete who embodies the Warrior spirit in more ways than just performing on the track, cross course, and in the field: having a positive attitude and showing perseverance when overcoming obstacles while facing life's challenges during their WSU CC and T&F career.  Davies earns the honor after being named the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) eight times, including four semesters with a 4.00 GPA.  She was a three-time recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award (2022-23, 23-24, 24-25) and was twice the Deans' Award recipient from the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts for having the highest cumulative grade-point average of any student-athlete in that college (2023-24, 24-25).  Davies was also named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence team for cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field in each of the three years that she was eligible.

BELOW ARE THE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY AWARDS:
Men's CC Athlete of the Year – Glen Davis (Burtchville, Mich. / Port Huron Northern [SC4/Spring Arbor])
Men's CC Rookie of the Year – Ishaan Kundapur (Northville, Mich.)

Davis opened his inaugural season with the Green and Gold by placing second at the Hillsdale Open with a time of 20:23.10.  He followed that performance by winning the Warrior Challenge by an impressive 25-second margin (25:08.40).   He earned Second Team All-GLIAC honors after a 14th-place finish (25:48.80) at the league meet and competed at the NCAA Midwest Regional Race, placing 29th.

Kundapur made his collegiate debut at the Warrior Challenge, claiming the 27th spot with a time of 26:54.30.  He placed 148th (27:18.90) at the Lucian Rosa Invitational, 22nd at the Jayhawk Invite with a time of 26:06.50, and finished 55th (26:23.10) at the GLIAC Championships.

BELOW ARE THE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY AWARDS:
Women's CC Athlete of the Year – Ava Peters (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin)
Women's CC Rookie of the Year – Ella Showerman (South Lyon, Mich. / Brighton [Michigan State])

Peters made her collegiate debut at the Hillsdale Open, finishing third (19:16.30).  The freshman followed that performance with a second-place finish at the Warrior Challenge, crossing the finish line at the 22:33.00 mark.  She earned a Second Team All-GLIAC nod after placing 15th (21:34.20) at the league meet and placed 28th (21:55.30) at the NCAA Midwest Regional. 

In her first season with Wayne State, Showerman competed in five races, opening with an 18th-place finish at the Warrior Challenge.  She placed 10th at the Jayhawk Invite with a time of 18:35.70.  Showerman garnered a Second Team All-GLIAC distinction after finishing 25th at the conference race and placed 112th (23:30.40) at the NCAA Midwest Regionals.
