Three Warriors Receive Men's Basketball All-GLIAC Honors

Briggs, Paul and Nweke were each honored for the first time in their careers.

DETROIT -- Jordan Briggs (Muskegon, Mich.), Carlos Paul III (Southfield, Mich. / Cornerstone Lincoln-King [Missouri State - West Plains]) and Jotham Nweke (Oak Park, Mich. / Detroit Loyola [Macomb C.C.]) were each honored on Friday as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2025-26 postseason awards.  Briggs was named to the First Team, Paul III was featured on the Second Team and Nweke was selected to the All-Defensive Team.

Briggs, Wayne State's leading scorer, put up 18.4 points per game in GLIAC contests, which was good for fifth in the league.  The junior also ranked first in free throw percentage (.881), sixth in assists per game (3.2), seventh in minutes played (33.1), eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.6) and 11th in field goal percentage (.420).  Overall, he led the team in scoring a team-best 14 times, in rebounding thrice, in assists a team-high 15 times, in steals six times, in field goals made eight times, in three-pointers made a team-best 12 times, and in minutes played a team-high 17 times.  Scored in double figures 22 times, with eight games of at least 20 points, including a career-high 35 on Dec. 6 against Ferris State.

"Jordy was a steady force for us this season and really took the next step in his game, becoming more of a scoring threat and leader," said head coach Bryan Smothers.  "He has continued to develop in our program and a lot of credit to him and our staff for putting in the time and effort to earn this honor."

Paul III was the third-most efficient scorer in conference play converting field goal attempts at a rate of 56.1 percent (106-of-189) as the only Warrior to start all 20 league games (and the 27 overall).  Overall, he paced the squad in scoring eight times, in rebounding eight times, in steals four times, in assists thrice, in field goals made a team-best 11 times, and in minutes played four times.  His 14.4 points per effort in GLIAC contests were good for 12th and 14.1 per performance overall ranked 11th.  Also overall, the senior scored in double figures 20 times, with five 20+ point performances, including a personal-best 25 on Feb. 19 at Roosevelt.

"Carlos has been a beast for two seasons and was one of the toughest players to stop in this league," mentioned Smothers.  "I think he earned the respect of our opponents.  He was our vocal leader and tone setter most nights.  Happy to have coached him."

For GLIAC league games only, Nweke ranked tied-for-sixth in steals (1.5 PG), tied-for-10th in blocked shots (0.9 PG), 11th in rebounding (6.2 RPG), and 14th in defensive rebounds (3.9 PG), despite ranking outside the top 25 in minutes played (28.4 PG).  The first-year Warrior led the team in steals a team-best 11 times, in rebounding a team-high 14 times, and in blocks a team-best 15 times.  Overall, he has started 26 of 27 games and scored in double figures 11 times, with three double-doubles, all of which came in the final month of the season.

"Jo's development on the defensive side of the ball was very important for our team this season," said Smothers.  "He has always been a good rebounder, but he got more comfortable blocking shots and accepting one-on-one matchups.  His size and length on the perimeter was effecting guarding multiple positions."
