Women's Outdoor Track & Field Concludes Day 1 of Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad had competitors in three events on Friday at the GVSU Al Owens Classic.

Junior Nicole Warren won the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.36m, which ranks fifth in program history.  Sophomore Ania Toboy led the throwers by placing fifth in the hammer with a best distance of 42.88m.  In the javelin, freshman Ella McCarty was the runner-up with a mark of 38.01m.

On Saturday, field events begin at 11 AM with the shot put, discus, long jump and high jump.  The running events will also begin at 11 AM on Saturday with the 100m hurdles, 100m dash prelims, and the 5K.  The remaining running events are scheduled to start at 1 PM - 4x100m relay, 1,500m run, 400m dash, 100m hurdle finals, 100m dash finals, 800m run, 400m hurdles, 200m dash, and 4x400m relay.

UP NEXT
After Saturday's competition at the Al Owens Classic, WSU will send a number of student-athletes to California for a trio of meets (Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, Cal State LA Twilight Open, and the University of La Verne Leopard Invitational).  Those not traveling to the West Coast, will participate in the Oakland Elaine Leigh Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 17-18.
