Men's Tennis to Close Regular Season at Grand Valley State and Ferris State

DETROIT -- The No. 18-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team will travel to No. 44-ranked Grand Valley State University and No. 26-ranked Ferris State University for its final contests of the regular season.  The Green and Gold will face GVSU on Friday, April 17, and FSU on Saturday, April 18.

LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors collected a pair of wins last weekend, triumphing 6-1 over Purdue Northwest and sweeping Roosevelt 7-0.

WSU is now 4-0 in GLIAC action, with three sweeps against Davenport, Michigan Tech, and Roosevelt.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) earned GLIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors for his efforts in the two wins.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Grand Valley State holds a 9-5 record, with a 3-1 mark in the GLIAC.  When playing at home, the Lakers are 5-2.

Two players have seen action at the No. 1 singles position, with Denys Zamaraiev posting a 6-6 ledger and Bora Bakici tallying a 4-0 mark.  On the Doubles side, Bora and Patricio Sepulveda occupy the No. 1 position, notching an 8-5 mark at that slot.

Samantha Barr is in her seventh year as the head coach of the GVSU tennis programs.  She, and the rest of her coaching staff, were tabbed as last season's GLIAC Coaching Staff of the Year as the squad won the GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament championships.  In addition, Barr was named the ITA Midwest Region Men's Coach of the Year.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Ferris State in ranked 26th in the nation according to the ITA, posting a 14-3 ledger with a 9-0 record at home and a 5-0 ledger in conference action.

A pair of FSU student-athletes are ranked in singles action, with Jose Perez ranking 31st and Kevin Kovacs ranking 39th.  In doubles action, Kovacs and Felipe Iser are the No. 38-ranked duo in the nation, most recently seeing action in the No. 2 slot.

Mark Doren serves as the head coach of the Bulldogs, three times being named as the GLIAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year (2021, 2023, 2024).  He guided FSU past Wayne State in last season's NCAA Midwest Regional, 4-3.

RANKINGS UPDATES
WSU stayed put as the No. 18-ranked squad in the nation on the newest iteration of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.  In singles, Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) is viewed as the No. 46-ranked singles player in the country, while Klaus and Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) are the No. 41-ranked doubles team nationally.

The NCAA released its first regional ranking of the season, with the Green and Gold appearing.  The first ranking is released in alphabetical order, with no rankings attached.
