Men's Tennis to Compete Against Roosevelt in Opening Round of GLIAC Tournament

DETROIT -- The No. 3-seeded Wayne State University men's tennis team will open the GLIAC Tournament with a match against Roosevelt University on Thursday, April 23, at 4:00 PM.  All GLIAC Tournament matches will take place in Midland, Mich., at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

The winner of the contest between Wayne State and Roosevelt will face No. 2-seeded Grand Valley State on Friday, April 24, at 4:00 PM.  The GLIAC Tournament Championship is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at 3:00 PM.

LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors dropped a 4-3 decision at Ferris State this past Saturday, April 18, in the squad's final match of the regular season.

The Green and Gold nabbed the doubles point and collected two singles wins, with Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) posting a win at the No. 2 singles slot, and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) notching a victory at the No. 3 position.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
During the regular season, WSU bested Roosevelt in a 7-0 sweep, winning two-of-three doubles matches and all six of the singles contests.

RU's lone GLIAC victory came as a 4-3 triumph at home over Michigan Tech.  In total, the Lakers tallied a 6-13 overall record.  In the No. 1 singles position is Juan Caicedo, tallying a 6-8 record.

Dominic DeNardo has helped the Lakers to a 24-26 ledger in his three years at the helm.

RANKINGS UPDATES
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its newest team, singles, and doubles rankings, with WSU being represented on all three.  As a squad, the Warriors are ranked 20th nationally.  Klaus is the lone representative in singles, ranking 38th, while he and his partner Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) are viewed as the No. 44-ranked duo in the nation.

The NCAA announced its updated regional rankings as well, with the Warriors appearing fifth in the Midwest.  WSU is joined by GLIAC foes Ferris State (second) and Grand Valley State (fourth).
