Wayne State University pitcher/utility
Lyndsay Butler (Cambridge, Ont.) earned both the GLIAC Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards for her performance as the Warriors went 5-0 at the Shaw Invitational this past weekend.
Butler, who graduated in December with a bachelor's degree in psychology, batted .588 (10-for-17) with 12 RBI. She smacked three home runs and one double for a 1.176 slugging percentage. Butler also walked twice for a .632 on-base percentage and had three stolen bases. In addition, she scored the first run of the game in the first four contests, then had the game-winning RBI in Sunday's triumph over Clarion.
She appeared in three of WSU's five wins during the Shaw Invitational recording two victories and a save. She allowed just six hits and no earned runs (two unearned runs) in 15.2 innings with 25 strikeouts to zero walks.
This marks the third time in her illustrious WSU career that Butler has been selected as both the GLIAC Player and Pitcher of the Week for the same week, and her 15th of the Week award from the league office.
Wayne State will take an 11-4 record into its spring break trip which begins on Saturday in Clermont, Fla., with contests against Merrimack and LIU Post.
