* BELLARMINE/MARYGROVE STORYLINES

Wayne State began the 2009-10 regular season with a 72-68 setback at Central State last Tuesday.

Saturday's contest against top-ranked Bellarmine will mark the first time in head coach David Greer's tenure that the home opener has been against a GLVC school.

The Marygrove game will mark the fifth meeting in the last six years between the schools. The Mustangs were WSU's home- opening opponent in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

* CENTRAL STATE RECAP

WSU trailed by 10 (58-48) with 8:45 left and cut the margin to three (68-65) with 99 seconds remaining after a 17-10 run.

Two foul shots by CSU's Gino Smith made it a five-point game until Ike Udanoh drained a triple from the corner with 46 seconds left.

An offensive foul on CSU gave WSU the ball with 17 seconds remaining, but a last second jumper would not fall.

* HOME OPENER HISTORY

WSU is 8-0 in home openers under head coach David Greer. The last seven home openers have been non-conference affairs, while Greer's first home opener was a GLIAC contest in 2001 against Saginaw Valley.

The last time the top-ranked Division II squad played in the Matthaei was Jan. 8, 2009, when Findlay defeated the Warriors 92-77.

* ALL-TIME SERIES

Wayne State and Bellarmine are tied at one win apiece after playing a home-and-home series during the 2005-06 campaign. BU won 85-77 on Nov. 19, while WSU claimed a 68-59 win in Detroit on Dec. 29.
The Warriors lead Marygrove 4-0 in the all-time series which began during the 2004-05 season. WSU has scored at least 100 points three times in the series, while allowing an average of 58.5 points per game.
