GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - In a dual meet at Calvin College on Saturday afternoon, the Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team came away with a
146-92 victory.
Three Warriors qualified for nationals on Saturday.
Ashley St. Andrew (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) achieved an NCAA “A” qualifying time with a first-place finish in the 1650 freestyle (17:19.58), one of two victories she earned in the meet as she also won the 500 free (5:06.59), improving upon a prior “B” qualifier.
Sara Franklin (Caro, Mich.) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.72, good for an “A” cut. Diver
Carly Sevald (Royal Oak, Mich./Mercy) also made a national cut on the three-meter board, finishing second (275.90).
Two other Warriors made “B” cuts, as
Elaina Hogle (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) won the 400 individual medley by over 16 seconds (4:35.00), and
Ana Gonzalez Pena (Gijon, Spain) earned two in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.55) and 50 free (24.39).
Diver
Cassie Chetosky (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica) improved her two national qualifiers, finishing first on both boards and setting a school record in the one-meter competition (282.30).
Other victorious swimmers included Hogle in the 100 butterfly (59.42),
Ashley Corriveau (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East) in the 100 free (52.85), and the foursome of Franklin, Gonzalez Pena,
Agata Zalewska (Swietochlowice, Poland) and
Alex Malfroid (Shelby Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) in the 200 medley relay (1:48.33).
Wayne State's next competition is Dec. 4-5 at the Eastern Michigan Invitational.
