Women's Basketball Set To Host Ferris State And Grand Valley

* GAME STORYLINES
With the first half of the season already gone, the Wayne State women's basketball team will begin the second leg of the 2009-10 season this weekend with games at home against Ferris State and Grand Valley.

The Warriors will be looking for their second win in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play after earning their first GLIAC victory of the season last Thursday against Saginaw Valley 68-58 at the Matthaei.

* ON THE BENCH
Gloria Bradley is in her 10th season at WSU and 17th season overall. Bradley's record at Wayne State is 111-149 while her career record stands at 225-218.

In her time at Wayne State, Bradley is 1-9 against Ferris State and 3-8 vs. Grand Valley.

Tracey Dorow has been in charge of Ferris State women's basketball since the 1998-99 season and has guided the Bulldogs to a 193-134 record.

In her third season as the coach at Grand Valley, Janel Burgess has a record of 48-25 and needs just three more wins to clinch her third straight winning season.

-If her blocks per game average holds up, freshman forward Deanna Crumpton would finish with 32 blocks, the third highest single-season total in school history.

* SCOUTING FERRIS STATE

With a record of 5-10 overall and 4-6 in the GLIAC, Ferris State is in fifth place in the GLIAC North. FSU is one of the better shooting teams in the conference with a field goal percentage of .446.

Tiara Adams is the GLIAC's second leading rebounder with an average of 8.5 rpg. The Bulldogs' top scorer is Lindsey Pettit at 17.7 ppg.

* SCOUTING GRAND VALLEY
The Lakers enter the weekend as the hottest team in the GLIAC with five straight wins. GVSU has won by an average of 20.4 ppg during its five-game winning streak, scoring at least 70 points five times while holding opponents to 50 points and below three times.

Emma Veach is currently averaging 12.2 ppg and 5.6 rpg. Briauna Taylor leads the GLIAC with a three-point shooting percentage of .600 (15-25).

* RECENT RESULTS
Four Warriors scored in double figures and the WSU defense forced 28 turnovers as WSU defeated SVSU 68-58 to earn its first GLIAC win. The victory also ended Wayne State's three-game losing streak.

As a team, Wayne State collected 16 steals which is a season-high and the most since its 18 vs. Saginaw Valley a year ago.

Junior guard Chelsea Kouri scored a season-high 17 points. Freshman guard Tyler Hardy scored 12 points while making three steals which tied Thomas and freshman guard Amelia Davis for a team-best.

Two days later, WSU was unable to win its second game in a row, losing to Lake Superior 79-55. Senior guard Brooke Bowers scored her 1,000th point in the defeat and Thomas had career-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds.
