Hillsdale, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (7-5 overall, 5-3 GLIAC) suffered its eighth consecutive setback at Hillsdale's Jesse Philips Arena falling
71-60 to the host Chargers (2-10 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors scored the first six points of the game on a jumper by junior
Ike Udanoh (Detroit, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) and back-to-back lay-ups by junior
Jerry Oden (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) which forced HC coach John Tharp to call a timeout.

Ian Larkin (Detroit, Mich./Renassiance) followed a Charger bucket giving WSU a 9-2 advantage. Wayne State had a seven point lead at 20-13 following a jumper by sophomore
Stacey Waters at the 5:30 mark.
The Warriors held the lead the remainder of the first half and went into the locker room with a 29-25 lead. WSU had a 16-6 scoring advantage in the paint in the opening 20 minutes, but the host Chargers had an 11-6 advantage in second chance points as Hillsdale had 10 offensive rebounds in the first half.
HC scored the first seven points of the second half to take the lead for the first time in the contest. Udanoh's lay-up at the 16:03 mark ended a scoreless drought of over for minutes for the Warriors and made it a one-point contest at 32-31.
The Chargers scored the next five points before back-to-back Oden jumpers made it a two-point game at 37-35 with just under 13 minutes left.
Two straight buckets by HC's Luke Laser increased the hosts lead to six at 41-35.
Wayne State was not able to get any closer than four (41-37, 43-39, 46-42) the rest of the game.

Bryan Wright (Warren, Ohio/Harding) led WSU with 15 points each, while junior
Bryan Smothers (Pontiac, Mich./Northern) contributed 14 points.
Kyle Jazwiecki led HC with 15 points off the bench. The Chargers had a 35-32 rebounding edge in the contest.
In the second half, Hillsdale outscored Wayne State 16-8 in the paint and shot 58 percent (15-of-26) from the floor after the Warrior defense held the Chargers to 26 percent (8-of-31) in the first half.
Wayne State will try to snap a season-long two-game losing streak at home on Thursday against Saginaw Valley. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. following the women's game at 5:30 p.m.
