* OPENING WEEK STORYLINES
Wayne State begins its 93rd season of intercollegiate basketball with a pair of home contests this week.
The Warriors will open with the Central State Marauders for the second consecutive year. Last season, CSU claimed a 72-68 home court win over WSU.
On Thursday, Wayne State will battle Lewis University, which won 17 games a year ago including a 61-49 triumph over the Warriors in Illinois last December.
* SEASON OPENER HISTORY
WSU is 4-5 in season openers under head coach
David Greer. Prior to last year's season-opening setback at Central State, the Warriors won two consecutive season openers (both at home vs. Marygrove in 2008 and 2009). WSU's last home win in a season opener against an NCAA Division II school was a 91-81 triumph over Saginaw Valley in 2002 as part of a GLIAC Classic tournament.
Ike Udanoh nearly had a double-double in his Warrior debut with 20 points and eight rebounds in only 23 minutes in last year's contest in Wilberforce, Ohio.
* ON THE BENCH
Greer, just the ninth head coach in school history, enters his 10th season at WSU with a 127-121 record. He is the fifth-longest tenured coach at WSU.
CSU's Donte Jackson is in his first year as a collegiate head coach taking over for Doug Lewis who is now at Northern Michigan.
Scott Trost begins his fifth season with the Flyers with an overall mark of 68-48.
* ALL-TIME SERIES
Wayne State has a 10-5 lead in the all-time series against Central State which began during the 1975-76 campaign.
The Warriors have won the last seven home matches against the Marauders with the most lopsided victory coming in the most recent game at the Matthaei as WSU posted an 80-50 triumph on Nov. 25, 2008.
Bryan Wright led three WSU players in double figures with 19 points.
Shane Lawal nearly had a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots.
Wayne State and Lewis have split the four meetings (2-2). This will be the Flyers first trip to Detroit since a 68-56 Tartar win in January of 1987.
