Detroit -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (12-12 overall, 10-10 GLIAC) had four players in double figures in Saturday's 91-74 victory over visiting Tiffin University (2-23 overall, 1-19 GLIAC) on Senior Day and Hall of Fame day for WSU athletics.

The Dragons scored the first six points of the contest on back-to-back triples by Keenan Barlow and DeAngelo Jordan.  Senior Bryan Wright (Warren, Ohio/Harding) made his first of three three-pointers to cut the deficit in half.  Consecutive layups by juniors Jerry Oden (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) and Bryan Smothers (Pontiac, Mich./Northern) put the Warriors in front 7-6.

TU would lead by three, 14-11, after a jumper by Barlow and for the last time (16-15) following a pair of foul shots by Mohammed Fall at the 10:10 mark.  A 9-0 WSU run gave the hosts a 24-16 lead.  The Dragons went over seven minutes without a field goal from Barlow's jumper to a layup by Austin Smith at the 7:11 mark.  Redshirt freshman Ian Larkin (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) had two buckets during the run while Smothers added a triple and junior Ike Udanoh (Detroit, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) contributed a fastbreak layup.

After Smith's hoop, Tiffin went over three minutes without another field goal as WSU scored six consecutive points including the last four by Udanoh.  A four-point play (three-pointer plus free throw) by Barlow pulled the visitors within seven, 30-23, at the 3:50 mark, but Wayne State recorded nine of the final 15 points of the half for a 39-29 lead at intermission.

WSU shot 60 percent (18-of-30) from the floor compared to 34.5 percent (10-of-29) for Tiffin in the opening 20 minutes.

Barlow started the second half with a triple right off the inbounds pass to make it a seven-point game at 39-32.  However, the Warriors responded with an 8-0 run which included a three-pointer by Wright, a triple by senior Larry Edwards (Benton Harbor, Mich.) and a fastbreak dunk by senior Bryan Edwards (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln).

Larry Edwards drained another three-pointer following a foul shot by TU's Brandon Harris pushing the lead to 17 with 16:51 left.

The Wayne State lead remained at least 12 until a jumper from the paint by Dragon Rafael Cuellar at the 10:11 mark cut the Warrior lead to 10 at 62-52.  Following a blocked shot by Bryan Edwards, Smothers nailed a triple on the fastbreak for a 13-point advantage.

After another Cuellar jumper cut the lead to 10 (66-56), Smothers scored four consecutive points on two foul shots and a jumper.

The Warrior lead was trimmed to nine (74-65) with 5:24 remaining after a three-pointer by TU's Brian Scott, but Smothers answered with his own three-pointer, which started a 7-0 WSU run.

Wayne State shot 60 percent (17-of-28) from the field in the second half, but Tiffin improved to 58 percent (18-of-31).  The Dragons scored 20 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds, but the Warrior fastbreak tallied 33 points against TU's full-court pressure.

Wright led four Warriors in double figures with 19 points.  Smothers and Oden each had 17 while Lakrin contributed 10 points and four rebounds in 13 minutes.

Larry Edwards, one of four seniors in their final home game (along with Bryan Wright, Bryan Edwards and the injured Justin Sample), recorded eight points and nine assists.

Wayne State will conclude the regular season with a pair of road contests -- Thursday at Grand Valley (8 pm) and Saturday at Ferris State (3 pm).  WSU needs one win or one Ashland loss to secure a playoff berth.
Tiffin also had four players in double digits led by Cuellar's 15.  He also had a game-high nine rebounds.
