ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Wayne State University women's swimming team has a
119-54 lead after the first day of a weekend dual meet at Lewis University.
The Warriors, ranked seventh in the latest Division II national poll released last week by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, won eight of the 10 events on Friday night.
Sara Franklin won the 100 backstroke (59.60) and led off two first-place relays.
Franklin,
Ana Gonzalez Pena,
Carol Azambuja and
Alex Malfroid finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:50.52), and the foursome of Franklin,
Agata Zalewska, Christina Busquets Garcia and
Ashley Corriveau won the 200 free relay (1:40.00).
The 800 free relay combination of Azambuja, Corriveau,
Alycen Wiacek and
Catherine Leix turned in a first-place time of 8:00.34.
Other winners on Friday included Azambuja in the 200 individual medley (2:14.14), Wiacek in the 500 free (5:16.22), Corriveau in the 100 free (53.74) and Leix in the 1000 free (10:44.23).
The dual meet will conclude Saturday afternoon.
