GRAND RAPIDS - The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team defeated Calvin College,
144-92, in a dual meet Friday night and earned or improved upon numerous NCAA qualifying times and scores.
The meet opened with a victory for the Warrior 200 medley relay, as
Cristina Busquets Garcia,
Kayla Scott,
Carol Azambuja and
Ashley Corriveau turned in a time of 1:48.23.
Brittany Wilkins and
Catherine Leix each picked up a “B” cut and finished one-two in the 1650 freestyle (17:32.88; 17:50.45), with
Kaylee Dolinski coming in third (17:56.76). Leix also won the 100 butterfly (1:02.20).
Azambuja improved her “B” times in the 100 free (51.36) and the 200 free (1:50.83), winning both races. Scott, who bested her prior “B” time in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.45) at the end of the night, was the runner-up in the 100 free (53.19).
Other “B” times were achieved in first-place swims by Corriveau in the 50 free (24.19) and
Kei Cze Prentis in the 400 individual medley (4:38.27).
Paige Kortman improved her national qualifier in one-meter diving (273.25), while she and
Carly Sevald each earned cuts on the three-meter board (271.70; 270.50).
Additional first-place finishers included Busquets Garcia in the 100 backstroke (59.86) and Marisa Swartz in the 500 free (5:18.92).
Wayne State will host Ashland in its first home dual meet of the season next Friday at 6:00 p.m.
