Springfield, Mo. – Behind the All-Tournament performance of redshirt senior
Ike Udanoh, the Wayne State University men's basketball team (3-1) picked up an important in-region victory over Drury University (3-2),
61-51, on Saturday evening.
Udanoh scored four of his team-high 15 points during the stretch. In addition, Udanoh eclipsed a career-high for the second consecutive night by collecting a career-best 15 rebounds.
He set a career-high point total (28) in Friday's win over Northeastern State. His efforts earned him All-Tournament honors along with junior guard
Cole Prophet (Sandusky, Ohio / Sandusky (Central State)). Prophet ended the game with 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.
The Warriors defense also played a huge role. Along with forcing 14 Panther turnovers, which turned into 19 Warrior points, WSU recorded a season-high 11 steals. Senior guard
Dale Brundidge (Southfield, Mich. / Country Day contributed to the effort posting a team-high five steals to go along with nine rebounds, four points and two assists.
Tied at 24 at the half, the Warriors outscored the hosts, 37-27, in the final 20 minutes.
Sparking the second half spurt was a 13-2 run in the first six minutes. WSU led by 15 with 30 seconds to play before DU tallied a couple late buckets.
Junior guard
Mike Hollingsworth (Utica, Mich. / Utica) chipped in a team-high 16 points playing 36 minutes.
The Warriors open up GLIAC play this Thursday at Lake Erie College (8 p.m.) followed by a road date at Ashland University on Saturday (3 p.m.).
