DETROIT - The Wayne State University women's basketball team (6-4, 2-3 GLIAC) lost at home for the first time this season, a
70-66 result against Tiffin University (7-2, 4-2 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.
Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) finished with 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Stefani Munro (Harrison Twp., Mich./Mount Clemens, who had a
triple-double Thursday night against Ohio Dominican, followed up with a career-best 19 points Saturday along with eight assists.
Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) contributed eight points, 15 rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Wayne State (44.4 percent) out-shot Tiffin (35.1), including a 51.6 field goal percentage in the second half. However, turnovers and free throw shooting plagued the Warriors, who are 5-1 on their home floor this season.
The Warriors finished 13-for-27 from the free throw line, while the Dragons shot 21-for-26.
Wayne State's last lead of the game, 16-15 with 8:02, disappeared on a three-pointer by Jennifer Johnston 64 seconds later. The Dragons took a 27-22 advantage into the locker room.
After trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half, the Warriors chipped away to tie it at 47-47 with 8:51 to play. Wayne State stayed within six for the duration of the half but, forced to foul near the end of regulation, could not fully close the gap.
Paige Sickmiller (Romeo, Mich.), who was 3-for-5 from three-point range, finished with 13 points and three steals.
Amelia Davis (Temperance, Mich./Bedford) chipped in eight points off the bench.
Wayne State will host two games Dec. 29-30 against St. Joseph's (Ind.) and Southern Indiana.
