GAME 7 STORYLINES
The Wayne State men's basketball team will put its five-game winning streak on the line Thursday night as the Warriors host the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals at 7:30 p.m.

Wayne State opened conference play with road victories over Lake Erie (67-56) and Ashland (75-66) last week.  SVSU extended its winning streak to three games after a 102-62 result Saturday at Marygrove.  The Cardinals began their GLIAC schedule with an 82-80 overtime win against Lake Superior State.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Wayne State trails in the all-time series, 32-31, against Saginaw Valley State.  The Warriors won both meetings in 2009-10, while the Cardinals swept the 2010-11 series.  WSU defeated SVSU, 89-87, in double overtime last December.

LAKE ERIE RECAP
Wayne State began GLIAC play with a 67-56 victory Thursday night at Lake Erie.

Mike Hollingsworth led three Warriors in double figures with 19 points, while Ian Larkin added 14 points and Cole Prophet chipped in with 12 points.  Ike Udanoh grabbed a game-best eight boards.

Wayne State shot 50 percent (26-of-52) from the floor, compared to LEC's 38 percent (20-of-53), and finished with just 10 turnovers.

The Warriors led by as many as 17 points and never trailed in the contest.

ASHLAND RECAP
Udanoh and Prophet combined to score 33 points, including all seven during a decisive 7-0 run late in the second half, as Wayne State rallied for a 75-66 win at Ashland on Saturday.

After leading by as many as 12 in the first half, WSU found itself trailing 47-40 with 14:36 to play before an 11-point run made it 51-47 lead with 11:09 left.  Ashland battled back to tie it at 63-63, but the Warriors' 7-0 run put the game away.

Udanoh totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds while Prophet added 15 points.  Gerald Williams-Taylor contributed 11 points.

ON THE BENCH
David Greer, just the ninth head coach in 94 years of WSU basketball, is in his 11th season at WSU with a 154-130 record.

He is the fifth-longest tenured coach at WSU. The 22 victories by the Warriors in 2010-11 were the most under Greer and the highest total since the 1998-99 NCAA qualifying squad compiled a 25-5 record.

Wayne State's 14 GLIAC wins last year are the most since the same 1998-99 team took first place in the conference with a 16-3 mark.

Fifth-year head coach Frankie Smith is 54-60 at Saginaw Valley State.  He was named GLIAC Coach of the Year last season.

SCOUTING SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
Junior guard Chris Webb hit a clutch three-pointer to lift SVSU over Lake Superior State in overtime last Thursday.  Webb scored a team-high 23 points against the Lakers and added 13 points in the win over Marygrove. He leads SVSU and ranks fourth in the GLIAC in scoring (18.6 ppg) this season.

Senior Greg Foster posted 20 points and nine rebounds against the Lakers, while also scoring 14 points and seven assists vs. Marygrove. Foster ranks second on the team (10th in GLIAC) averaging 15.4 points per game.

Through seven games, the Cardinals are averaging 79.6 points and shooting .446 from the floor. SVSU has a 77.5 team free throw percentage, with four players shooting 80 percent or better.

IN THE POLLS
Wayne State was picked to finish third in the South Division in the GLIAC media preseason poll.  Saginaw Valley State was tabbed for fifth in the North Division.

WSU will wrap up the 2011 calendar year Dec. 29 at Wisconsin-Parkside and Dec. 31 at Lewis before resuming GLIAC action Jan. 5 at Hillsdale and Jan. 7 at Findlay.
