* GAMES 25-26 STORYLINES


After going 1-1 in two road contests last week at the top two North Division squads, Wayne State concludes the regular season with a pair of home contests this week. Thursday's game vs. Lake Superior will be televised on Comcast Channel 900.

WSU is fourth in the GLIAC and the top four teams will host a GLIAC quarterfinal game next Wednesday.

* ALL-TIME SERIES


Wayne State leads Lake Superior 40-20 in the all-time series including a 23-7 mark in Detroit. WSU is 7-1 in its last eight home games against the Lakers.

The Warriors are 41-33 vs. Hillsdale. WSU has a 25-12 home mark against the Chargers including a 5-1 record in the last six games in Detroit.

* WEEK 13 RECAP


Wayne State dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season, falling 78-66 at Ferris State on Feb. 17.

Bryan Smothers hit the 20-point mark for the 10th time this season, scoring a game-high 25 points, one shy of his career-high, on 8-of-17 shooting, including 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Smothers also dished out five assists. Mike Hollingsworth had 18 points and was 7-for-11 at the charity stripe.

Trailing 35-33 to start the second half, the Warriors were outscored 11-6 in the first 5:21. WSU went on a 7-2 run capped by a Smothers triple, climbing within five (58-53).

WSU led from start to finish, handing Grand Valley its first home loss, 59-52. The Warriors were the last team to beat the Lakers at GVSU Fieldhouse, winning 70-56 last season. The 52 points was GVSU's lowest game total of the year.

WSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead as GVSU did not score until the 16:06 mark. The Warriors biggest lead (8) of the first half came after a pair of free throws Hollingsworth, making the score 15-7 with 10:12 remaining. Hollingsworth scored 14 points and added four rebounds.

Wayne State was up 21-15 with 3:58 left following Smothers' only field goal of the first 20 minutes. It would be the Warriors' last points of the half as they took a 21-17 lead into the break.

Following a lay-up from Jerry Oden, who had 14 points and three rebounds, extended the Warriors' halftime lead to seven (30-23) at the 14:50 mark, WSU was outscored 14-11 over the next 6:52 of the contest.

Smothers, who tied with a game-high 16 points, concluded the game by scoring WSU's last nine points. The Lakers totaled nine points as a team during the stretch.

* ON THE BENCH


David Greer, just the ninth head coach in 93 years of WSU basketball, is in his 10th season at WSU with a 145-127 record. He is the fifth-longest tenured coach at WSU.

Steve Hettinga has a 62-49 record in his fourth season with the Lakers.

Hillsdale's John Tharp has compiled a 66-41 mark in his fourth year with the Chargers.

* SCOUTING LAKE SUPERIOR


The Lakers have lost five of their last six games but own a 4-4 GLIAC road record.

Kyle Hunt leads LSSU in scoring (16.9 points per game) but has missed the last seven games.

Hunt has made more free throws (88) than the teammate with the next most attempts (78).

Micah Hudson is second at 12.0 ppg, but leads the team wtih 57 triples.

Justin Williams leads the squad in field goal percentage (59.0) making 95-of-161 shots. He also has a team-best 135 rebounds and 21 blocked shots.

Derek Billings leads the squad in both assists (80) and steals (48), while Derek Kinney is second in rebounding with 131.

* SCOUTING HILLSDALE

The Chargers have won five straight overall and are 6-1 on the road in league play this season heading into Thursday's game at Findlay.

Brent Eaton (17.0 points per game), Brad Guinane (13.8) and Tyler Gerber (12.4 ppg) are all averaging in double figures.

Eaton leads the team in field goal percentage (51.7) on 139-of-269 and also in three-pointers made (59).

Guinane has a team-best 152 rebounds, while Gerber leads the Chargers in both assists (133) and steals (48).

Tim Dezelski is second in rebounding (101) but first in offensive rebounds (36) and blocked shots (15).
