The Warriors conclude a three-game homestand tonight as Wisconsin-Parkside travels to Motown. WSU starts a three-game conference road trip Saturday at Northwood.
* ALL-TIME SERIES
The Rangers won the last meeting, just over three years ago, ending a two-game WSU win streak.
WSU holds a 14-13 advantage in games played in Midland, despite losing the last two meetings at the Bennett Center.
* WEEK 11 RECAP
Wayne State won two home games against North Division foes to improve to 12-2 in the GLIAC.
The inside play of
Ike Udanoh and
Jerry Oden carried the 33rd-ranked Warriors to a 77-69 home victory over Northern Michigan University on Thursday.
Udanoh finished with a career-high 24 points and nine rebounds, while Oden tallied a season-high 21 points and had six rebounds. The duo allowed the Warriors to outscore the Wildcats, 44-22, in the paint.
Despite committing 15 uncharacteristic turnovers, the home team dished out 22 assists on 28 made field goals. Six of the nine WSU players had at least one assist.
Neither team would yield an inch in the first 30 minutes of the contest as the score was tied seven times and changed hands on nine different occasions.
WSU shot 60.7 percent from the floor and ran away with an 84-61 win over Michigan Tech.
The contest, which honored the 1965 team who won the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship, saw
Bryan Smothers become the 16th player in school history to break the 1,000 career points mark, after he tallied 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, and added five assists.
Smothers eclipsed the mark with 2:27 left in the first half on a jumper. He sits at 1,008 points for his career.
It was all Warriors in the first 20 minutes as they outshot the Huskies 66.7 percent to 39.3 percent to take a 45-27 halftime lead.
Michigan Tech would have its turn in the second half, but only for the first 8:36. The Huskies used a 16-8 run to cut the deficit to 53-43 with 11:24 to go. During the stretch, the Warriors were 4-of-12 from the field, while MTU was 7-for-13.
A jumper and a three-point basket from Smothers, sandwiched between dunks from
Mike Hollingsworth and
Ian Larkin, allowed the Warriors to post the games next nine points.
