DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (11-9 overall, 6-7 GLIAC) upended visiting Lake Erie College (13-5 overall, 7-4 GLIAC) by a
67-64 score Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei.
The Warriors trailed the entire first half with the Storm's lead of seven (31-24) at intermission being their largest lead.
WSU's deficit reached nine in the first 30 seconds of the second half before a 7-0 Warrior run cut the margin to two.
Lake Erie maintain leads of two to four points over the next few minutes until a baseline triple by junior guard
Paige Sickmiller (Romeo, Mich.) with 15:25 remaining put WSU ahead for the first time at 40-39. Sickmiller's fast break jumper a minute later was followed by a feed from Sickmiller to junior forward
Deanna Crumpton (Kentwood, Mich. / East Kentwood) for a lay-up. Junior center
Juanita Cochran (Saginaw, Mich. / Arthur Hill) added a lay-up and Crumpton made a pair of foul shots to complete an 11-0 Wayne State spurt.
Two more Crumpton free throws and a offensive put-back by Cochran put the hosts ahead by 11 (52-41) with just under 9:30 left. WSU's lead remained between nine and 12 points for the next three minutes until a 6-0 Lake Erie run made it a six-point contest (56-50) with 5:30 to go.

Chelsea Williams (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) scored from inside and the teams traded buckets with
Lena Thomas' (Bloomfield Twp., Mich. / Bloomfield Hills Andover) fast-break lay-up putting the Warriors ahead 64-55 with 3:25 left.
Seven consecutive Lake Erie points cut the WSU lead to two points with just under two minutes remaining. Neither team would score on each of their next two possessions with Wayne State junior
Amelia Davis (Temperance, Mich. / Bedford) making the first of two in a one-and-one situation with 17.2 seconds left. Stephanie Rogers scored with 8.8 seconds left making it a one-point game at 65-64. Thomas then sank both free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining increasing the WSU lead to three (67-64).
Lake Erie's final chance to tie was negated when Cate Cianchetti stepped out of bounds with one second left.
Crumpton tallied a game-high 21 points to lead three Warriors in double figures. Junior forward
Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Sickmiller contributed 11 points.
After shooting just 33 percent (8-of-24) in the first half, WSU made 47 percent (15-of-32) of its second half shots.
Rogers led LEC with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Wayne State held significant advantages in points in the paint (36-22), second chance points (18-7), fast break points (16-3) and bench scoring (26-6).
The Warriors will travel to the Upper Peninsula for a pair of games next week beginning with a Thursday contest at Northern Michigan.
