Women's Swimming Upended 193-101 at Oakland


Results

Rochester, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving program battled Division I Oakland University Saturday afternoon at the OU Aquatic Center but suffered a 193-101 setback in the dual meet.

WSU's 200 medley relay team of Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Kayla Scott (Rochester, Mich. / Adams), Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia) and Ashley Corriveau (Metamora, Mich. / Lapeer East) took first place in a time of 1:47.72.

The Warriors were led in the individual events by Novichenko, who won a trio of races in the 200 fly (2:02.68), 200 breast (2:22.70) and 100 fly (56.78), while Scott won the 100 breast (1:06.17).

Second-place finishes were recorded by Azambuja in the 100 back (58.16), Corriveau in the 50 free (24.74) and 100 free (53.21), and Paige Kortman (Holland, Mich.) in both the one-meter diving (276.60) and three-meter board (280.65).

Carly Sevald (Royal Oak, Mich. / Mercy) was third on the one-meter board (256.80) with Azambuja earning a third-place finish in the 200 back (2:07.88).  Emily Mitzelfeld (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) was third in the three-meter diving (252.15).

Wayne State will host its first meet of the season this Friday as Eastern Michigan visits the Matthaei Natatorium for a 5 p.m. meet.
