Tiffin, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (1-2 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) won its league opener, 84-57, at Tiffin University (2-2 overall, 0-1 GLIAC) Thursday evening.

Talisha Bridges (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) tallied a game-high 21 points to lead four Warriors in double figures. Classmates
Phaebre Colbert (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) and
Paige Sickmiller (Romeo, Mich.) each added 16 points, while freshman
Kristen Long (Corunna, Mich./Durand) chipped in 10 points. Bridges also grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds.
It was a see-saw affair early on with four lead changes in the first 2:10 with WSU's
Kayla Bridges (Canton, Mich. / Canton) making a jumper to put the Warriors in front 6-5. After Colbert split a pair from the foul line, back-to-back buckets from
Talisha Bridges increased the lead to 13-5. The Dragons cut the WSU lead to six (13-7) but an 11-4 run gave Wayne State a 24-11 advantage.
Tiffin roared back with a 13-2 spurt to pull within two with 5:39 remaining, but
Lena Thomas (Bloomfield Twp., Mich. / Bloomfield Hills Andover) made a pair from the foul line and Long hit a jumper increasing the lead to six (30-24).
The Dragons went on a 7-2 run to end the half with the Warriors holding a 32-31 lead.
Both teams struggled from the floor coming out of intermission but a pair of Colbert baskets made it a five-point game (36-31).
TU pulled within three a couple of times, but Wayne State finished the game on a 46-22 run.
The Warriors continue their league road trip with a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday at Ohio Dominican.
