The Warriors win 10 events on their way to a victory in their home pool

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team won 10 events of 13 events and had an abundance of strong performances as the Warriors defeated Calvin College in their home pool, 149-89.

Seven different individuals won events for the Warriors.

Paige Kortman (Holland, Mich./Holland) won both diving disciplines for the Warriors, winning the 1-meter competition (284.74 points) and the 3-meter contest (289.05 points).

Carol Azambuja (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also earned two victories for WSU, winning the 500 free (5:05.29) and 50 free (23.71).

Sarah Maraskine (Midland, Mich./Dow) finished in first place in the 200 free, swimming a time of 1:54.72. WSU teammate Ashley Corriveau (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East) finished second in the 200 free in a time of 2:00.91. The pair then reversed roles as Corriveau earned a victory in the 100 free in a time of 52.44 and Maraskine finished second in a time of 52.57.

Other winners for Wayne State were Nicole Kudla (Lake Orion, Mich.) in the 100 butterfly (1:02.44), Kei Cze Prentis (Shelby Twp., Mich./Utica Eisenhower) in the 400 individual medley (4:40.24) and Elly Maleski (Cedar, Mich./Traverse City West) in the 100 back (1:00.18). Prentis also finished second in the 100 back (1:00.91).

Veronica Loock (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) earned two second-place finishes, swimming the 1650 free in 18:15.89 and 400 individual medley in 4:51.37.

Wayne State also took a victory in the 200 medley relay with Maleski, Kayla Scott (Rochester, Mich./Adams), Kristina Novichenko (Seversk, Russia/Saint-Petersburg) and Azambuja swimming the legs. They finished in a time of 1:47.49.

The Warriors return to the pool Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17 when the Warriors travel to the Ashland Invitational in Ashland, Ohio.
